Letter From The President: Facing Forward in 2024

February 7, 2024

I typically start the new year reflecting on the previous year, but there are so many exciting things happening for HCIF as we begin 2024 that I am disinclined to look backward. Instead, I am delighted to share a variety of organizational and programmatic updates that will launch us into the new year.

First, we are proudly announcing a new website (hcifonline.org) and refreshed logo and colors. We invite you to wander around the website and learn more about all of our programs and services. As you visit the website, you’ll see that our programs are categorized in a way that more aptly reflects the work of HCIF (improving patient care and outcomes, addressing health disparities, and implementing community-based solutions). We encourage you to visit often and use the resources the website provides.

Although it may feel that our area health systems just completed the regional Community Health Needs Assessment (rCHNA), it is time to start gearing up for the 2025 cycle. At HCIF, we are working hard to ensure the values we stand behind for the rCHNA are front and center as we prepare for this next round. Authentic community engagement will continue to be a priority in 2025, as well as collaboration, cooperation, and consensus among our health system partners. We are building a strong team to guide you through this process and offer the support required to develop a high-quality, actionable, and resourceful rCHNA. We are eagerly looking forward to the first Steering Committee meeting in February.

We are also excited to announce additional funding to support our Health Equity Data Strategy (HEDS) program. This funding will support the building of bridges between hospitals and communities to improve collection of Racial, Ethnicity and Language (REaL) data and other demographic data. Recognizing that the optimal collection of this data is largely built on trust, we will be engaging communities to better understand the facilitators and barriers to trust.

With the start of the new year, I am personally thrilled to be working with a new HCIF Board Executive Committee, including: Chair, Natalie Levkovich; Vice Chair, Matthew Hurford; Treasurer, Vanessa Renee; Governance Committee Chair, Norman Weinstein; Immediate Past Chair, Patricia Sullivan, and Member-At-Large, Elaine Markezin. All of these leaders bring extraordinary experience and expertise to the Board. They have each served on the Board for several years. Under their leadership, HCIF is sure to continue growing and achieving many milestones.

Hoping your 2024 is filled with many exciting new beginnings and achievements!
